Art Deco Box

JewelryArtDeco

This jewelry box was given to me by my sister.  I ripped out the drawers, the velvet lining and the necklace turnstyle.  The box sat for over 6 years in that demolished state.  Then I found the modern looking coffee service and drink tray at Ron's Miniature Shop in Orlando, FL.  At the same time I found the clock (made by the same artisan who created the drink trays).  The black figurines were picked up on the same shopping trip, as was the cat . . .

Yes, I said "cat".  I never intended for a figure to be in the scene, but she seemed so purr-fect (sorry, couldn't resist the pun).  I wish I owned a dress like this (wished I had a shape like that - tail and all ;o)).  She was an ornament, so I had to glue black feathers over the hook on the top of her head.

The best part was that I found 1/2-inch "mirror mosiac glass" squares.  They were a great solution to my ripped up walls (which would not be covered nicely by wallpaper).  The worst part was that they were not all exactly 1/2" square.  So I spent a few nights picking out the straightest pieces and arranging them to try and get the mirror glass rows as even as possible (so that my shelves would be as even and level as possible) . . .

Was not able to get the shelves perfectly level, but the overall effect was quite stunning.  An LED light up under the jewelry box magnet mechanism (for keeping the jewelry box doors closed) helped to brighten up the modern decorations on the shelves.  I was quite surprised as this project sat for years without "happening" and within one month everything fell in place and the box was completed.  And I usually don't like Art Deco stuff.
